Rick was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Sons of American Veterans, served 6 years on the Board of Trustees for Sunnyslope Care Center, served on the Ottumwa Board of Realtors, served on the Ottumwa Police and Fire Pension Board, a member of NARVRE Board, served 13 years as President of the Brotherhood of Railroad Retirees Union, and served on the Board of Trustees of the Planning & Zoning Commission and Planning Board. Rick was a member of and served 2 years as President of the Ottumwa Noon Lions, winning the Distinguished Service Award in 2007 and Member of the Year 2008-2009. He was past President and Trustee of Ottumwa Eagles Aerie #114 and a diligent member of the Make Ottumwa Shine Committee. Rick served as a Notary for the State of Iowa for 25 years, and received an award from Gov. Loveless for his work on the Riverfront Commission. Surviving is a son, Shawn Lewis of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Sheri Dawn Blackburn of Eddyville; three step-daughters, Amber Essary of Altoona, Jennine Conway of Branson, MO and Jessica Mozo of Nashville, TN; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Sheri (Willy) Bookin Boettcher of Ottumwa; and a dear friend, Mary Ehret of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Doug Bookin and brother-in-law, Mike Bookin.
