He was born in Vancouver, Washington, on March 1, 1935, to Lewis Joseph Eten and Ethel Mary Alexander. Dick married Hope Jinkinson on July 18, 1958, in Vancouver, Washington. They were happily married for 61 years. Dick is survived by his sons Bret Eten (Vivian), Tri Cities, Washington, John Eten (Michelle), Normandy Park, Washington; six grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Collen, Melissa, Sarah, Lindsay; and six great-grandchildren. Dick grew up in Vancouver, Washington, where he graduated from Vancouver High School in 1953. After high school, Dick attended Clark College in Vancouver., Washington Shortly after graduation, Dick began his career in the industrial distribution business with the Carborundum Company. Dick prospered as a salesperson and traveled the greater Northwest selling abrasive products to the pulp and paper industry. Dick left Carborundum and went into business with his longtime friend Bud Seifert. Together they established Klickitat Valley Distributing in Goldendale, Washington. Dick enjoyed the challenging work of starting a new business and promoting Rainier Beer in Klickitat County. Eventually Dick returned to his roots in industrial distribution and retired from Manufacturers Tool Service (M.T.S.) Dick was an outstanding athlete in High School earning an all-conference award in football playing for the Trappers. He was recognized multiple times by the Longview Daily News as lineman of the week. Dick enjoyed all sports and was a standout fastpitch softball catcher. He was an avid golfer and loved fishing the Lewis River Valley for salmon, steelhead, and trout. His true passion was Elk Hunting. He loved the opportunities he had to harvest Elk in the Willapa Hills and Mt. Saint Helens wilderness. Dick will be happy to be reunited with all his Elk Camp hunting partners. Dick raised Labrador Retrievers after his retirement from MTS. His first lab Jake was a Canadian Grand Champion. His other labs went on to win Best in Show and countless ribbons. He took pride in ensuring all his Labs had working and companion dog certificates. Dick was laid to rest at Yale Memorial Cemetery located at 14490 Lewis River Road, Ariel, Washington 98603. Dick had many fond memories in the hills surrounding the Yale Valley, boating on Yale Lake and enjoying family and friends in the nearby town of Cougar, Washington. The Eten family hosted a celebration of Dick's life at the Margarita Factory in Battle Ground, Washington (11 N Parkway Ave) on Saturday May 14th, 2022.
