Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Brenda Booth of the First Christian Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be Jake Sulzberger, Lonnie Carter, Dave Hartman, Sam Owens, Bob James, and Raymond Wendt Jr. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren and Mike Martin, Ron Couch, Tom Armstrong and Gary Armstrong. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine Care Center. Mr. Armstrong was born on Feb 12, 1933, in Muscatine, the son of Noel and Alma Kays Armstrong. He married Karen Hintermeister on July 18, 1954, in Muscatine. Richard was a graduate of Muscatine High School. He was a US Army veteran serving in Baumhoulder, Germany from 1955 to 1957. Mr. Armstrong was a letter carrier for the US Post Office retiring in 1990. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Moose Lodge No. 388. He liked spending time with family and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He loved to travel and enjoyed the gambling boats and Las Vegas. Survivors include two sons, David Armstrong of Muscatine and Steve Armstrong and wife, Ann, of Iowa City; three daughters, LeAnn Wienke and husband, Dale, of Muscatine, Sue Hilton and husband, Alan, of Muscatine, and Mary Kisner and husband, Brad, of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Martin and husband, Mike, of Muscatine, and Kay Couch and husband, Ron, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; and his significant other, Rayetta Wendt of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy and one brother, Bill.
