Gilstrap 26-year-old airman first class from James Connally Air Force Base, remained incomplete at Connally Funeral Home Tuesday night. The man was found dead on the front bedroom floor of his home at 2005 Gurley Avenue about 6:45 a. m. Tuesday. He had been shot once in the head. A lever-action, .308 caliber Winchester rifle was found nearby. Police said it had been fired once. They recovered a spent shell in the rifle chamber. Justice of the Peace John Cabaniss ruled death by self-inflicted gunshot would. The body was discovered by the man's wife, Mrs. JoAnn Gilstrap, 27. Police said she told them she was preparing breakfast in the kitchen when she heard a loud explosion and went to investigate. "I thought the water heater blew up at first," the woman said. After finding her husband's body, Mrs. Gilstrap ran to a neighbor's home and police were called from there. Sgt. Oliver Chambers, Special Investigator O. E. Blythe, Patrolmen Charles Goode and Bill Parsons investigated. They said Mrs. Gilstrap told them her husband had suffered a brain concussion in an auto mishap two years ago Sep. 10 and "had never been the same" since that time. Police also said a note was found near the body. It was printed on the back of a school book cover in purple crayon and said: "I've messed up this life--Dick." A-1 Ambulance took the body to Connally Funeral Home.
