Description	:	Richard Moreland Baily, 67, sheriff of Turner County, died at 11:30 Tuesday morning September 28, 1926, from a sudden heart attack, while visiting at the Nick Nelson home four miles west of Centerville. Sheriff Baily and Mr. J.W. Watson were in the vicinity of Centerville and on their way home stopped at the Nelson home. Read More	Richard Moreland Baily, 67, sheriff of Turner County, died at 11:30 Tuesday morning September 28, 1926, from a sudden heart attack, while visiting at the Nick Nelson home four miles west of Centerville. Sheriff Baily and Mr. J.W. Watson were in the vicinity of Centerville and on their way home stopped at the Nelson home. While talking with members of the Nelson family, Sheriff Baily had a sudden heart attack and died immediately. Eight years ago, Mr. Baily developed valvular heart trouble which at intervals has caused serious attacks. During the past few weeks, he had been ailing but on leaving home on Tuesday morning seemed in better health than he had been for some days. He bore his infirmity with cheerful resignation and but a few people knew of his trouble. His death came as a severe shock to relatives and friends. Richard Moreland Baily was born in Rockville, Iowa, on April 15, 1857.() () The person reporting the birth year for Richard was his second wife, which shows it as 1859. The 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1885 Iowa census records all show his birth year as 1857. I received this info from a person working on the Baily genealogy for 14 years. Later he moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, and also lived in Albion, Neb., LeMars, Iowa, and Gayville, S.D., and in 1904 he moved to Parker with his family. Since that time he has made his home here in Parker or vicinity. While at LeMars, he was chief of police for four terms and also practiced veterinary medicine. Dr. Baily carried on his profession for 20 years after moving to Parker and during the past two years was sheriff of Turner County. Dr. Baily was married to Minnie Hanscom at Sioux City, Iowa, on October 13, 1889. To this union three sons were born, Dr. Jay M. Baily, Robbin H. Baily and Walter J. Baily all of Parker. Also surviving him are his widow, three granddaughters and one grandson The deceased was a member of the Odd Fellow and Elk orders. He was a faithful officer and a man of the highest integrity. He had a kindly manner which won him a host of friends, who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral services were held from the home on this Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. McMartin and Rev. Tell conducted the services. Mrs. Bert Johnson and Mrs. Arthur Heyder sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Church in the Wildwood". Pallbearers were William Lakings, A.C. Farr, Herb Jones, Thomas Keehn, Vinal Clikeman and Dick Stout. Honorary pall-bearers were Judge L.L. Fleeger, John Steninger, J.W. Watson, Dr. Sacket, Charles Shager and Andrew Bogue. Interment was made in the Rosehill Cemetery.
