Poston, a resident of Villisca and vicinity practically all of the seventy-two years of his life, died Wednesday afternoon at 1:22 o’clock at the state hospital in Clarinda where he was taken about ten years ago for care. His death resulted from anemia and Bright’s disease. His brother, A. W. Poston and the later’s wife were with him at the time of his death and his son, Rev. Harry Poston of Williamsburg, Iowa, had been with him the day before he died, having left Tuesday evening on his return home. R. S. Poston was born in Adams County, Iowa, near old Quincy, on May 14, 1853, and was the first white child born in that county. He moved the following year with his parents to the farm southeast of Villisca where his brother, A. W. Poston now lives, and with the exception of one year spent in Kansas, is home during the remainder of his life was spent on that farm and in Villisca. He was married in 1872 to Miss Frances Winer, and to them two children were born, one of whom is deceased. The other, Rev. Harry Poston, holds a pastorate in Williamsburg. Mr. Poston’s wife died in Villisca, February 3, 1923. Besides his son, he leaves also three brothers and three sisters. They are J. B. Poston, Lovett, Oklahoma, J. T. Poston, Miami, Florida, A. W. Poston, Villisca, Mrs. Mary Mitchell, Villisca, MRs. Mattie Buckley, Concordia, Kansas, and Mrs. Fannie Sampson, Hanson, Idaho. Funeral arrangements had not been made Thursday morning, awaiting the arrival of Rev. Harry Poston here that evening. Interment will be in the Villisca Cemetery, beside the wife of the deceased.
