On March 11, 1942, he married Madelyn Pedrick in Ottumwa. She died April 24, 1985. Mr. Jacobson worked on the family farm and was a ranch hand in Colorado. He trained under his uncle to become a master carpenter. He worked at Pedrick Hardware and Furniture Store and Pedrick Funeral Home, both in Douds. Read More	Richard Jacobson 9-8-06 Hawk Eye, The (Burlington, IA) - Friday, September 8, 2006 Born Dec. 2, 1915, in Boxholm, he was the son of Wilbur J. and Alfreda Lindau Jacobson. On March 11, 1942, he married Madelyn Pedrick in Ottumwa. She died April 24, 1985. Mr. Jacobson worked on the family farm and was a ranch hand in Colorado. He trained under his uncle to become a master carpenter. He worked at Pedrick Hardware and Furniture Store and Pedrick Funeral Home, both in Douds. He and his family moved to Cheyenne where he was a building contractor. He moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 1962, where he owned and operated service businesses until his retirement. He moved back to Cheyenne in 1989. He was a graduate of Boxholm High School. He served with the Navy SeaBees on Midway Island and in Hawaii and Florida during World War II. He was active in Methodist churches in Boxholm, Douds, Cheyenne and Tucson. He sang in church choirs, served on many church committees and was the Sunday school superintendent. He played the cornet in the Boxholm band and was a Navy bugler. He was a 50-year mason in Celestial Lodge 413 AF and AM in Douds and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He also was a member of the Shriners and the John Hyson Reneker Post 494 and the American Legion in Douds. Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia Hosick of Pullman, Wash., Karen Johnson of Omaha, Neb., and Melanie Jacobson of Iowa City; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with a public Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. followed by family meeting friends until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Jacobson will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Revs. Harold Harryman and Len Garrison officiating. Burial with military rites by the John Hyson Reneker Post will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds. A memorial has been established for Shriners' Crippled Children's Hospitals.
