Orangeville Banner, October 8, 1931 - Richard Young It is with very much regret that we report the death of Richard Young, who passed away at the Lord Dufferin hospital on Monday, Sept. 21. The late Mr. Young was born at York, England, 68 years ago, and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Young, of that city. He came to Canada when he was 21 years of age. After living at Owen Sound for a few years, he moved to Orangeville and successfully conducted the Commercial Hotel for a number of years. He then purchased the Noble Moore farm in Caledon, bordering on the town limits and a short distance south of St. Peter's church. Mr. Young was the real type of an Englishman who was bound to succeed in a new country. From the day he landed in Orangeville he worked hard and in a few years became independent. In all his dealings with his fellowmen he was above reproach and his word was as good as his bond. He was strictly honest and upright in his dealings and his death removes a good citizen from our civic life. He was a staunch member of St. Mark's Anglican Church and a Conservative in politics. Mr. Young is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Mary Armstrong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Armstrong, pioneer residents of Caledon, three sons and three daughters, George, James and R. V., Mrs. Bert French, Margaret and Mae, and two grandchildren, Harry and Marjorie French. Two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Gott, of New Hampton, Ia., and Mrs. M. Billington, London, Eng., and a brother, Robert Young, of White Rock, South Dakota, also survive. The funeral was held on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd, and was very largely attended. Rev. H. A. West-McMaster, rector of St. Mark's church, conducted services at the house and grave and the pallbearers were Messrs. J. W. Aiken, William Holmes, James Caldwell, Alfred Shepley, Isaiah Sargent and Thomas Wright. The flowerbearers were Ewing Armstrong, Edgar Robinson, Bert Glover, Lewis McConnell, Orrie Johnston and Melville Walker. The high esteem in which deceased was held was attested by the large number of floral tributes, which included: Sheaf of roses, the family; sprays, Mrs. and Mrs. Vernet Armstrong and Misses J. and M. Armstrong; Mr. and Mrs. R. J McConnell and family, Mr. and Mrs. I Sargent and family, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Holmes and family, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Harrison, Peterboro; Davis family, Caledon East; Richardson family, Miss Jean Firth, London; Mr. and Mrs. J. Lanktree and Bill, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. A. Grigg, Mrs. Ogston, Mabel and Bernice; George Thompson, Victor Torrance, Bert Glover; baskets, grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. H. Watt and family, the girls of the Auxiliary, Mr. and Mrs. Alf Shepley, Mrs. and Mrs. Mel Johnston, South Ward group, Mr. and Mrs. James Loftus, Muriel McKelvey, Ina Huston, Mabel Powell, Thos. and Sarah Maxwell, James Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. T.
