He attained the age of 88 years, ten months and 13 days. Rients Van Buren was born at Hospers, IA on Jan. 31, 1911, the son of Otto and Dirkea (Oliver) Van Buren. He moved to South Dakota with his family and attended Harrisburg school, getting there by way of a horse-drawn school bus. The family moved to the Lennox area, where he attended Lennox High School and then lived in California for a short time. On Nov. 30, 1935, he married Gertie Naatjes in Sioux Falls, SD. He operated a dairy and grain farm west of Lennox, and later, north of Lennox, and was a truck driver. He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 11, 1976. He move to Lennox in 1981. On Nov. 10, 1981, he married Hilcarrie (Kate) Meyer Jongeling in Lennox. They lived in Lennox their entire married life. He was a school bus driver for the Lennox School District for 25 years. He was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, and entered the Lennox Good Samaritan Center on Aug. 4, 1997. Survivors include his wife; Kate; one daughter, Doris Dannen and her husband, George, of rural Lennox; one grandson, Daniel Dannen and his wife Tiffanie, of rural Hurley, SD; three great-grandchildren; four step-children; 12 step-grandchildren; 18 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Allie Rang, and Agnes Stroman and her husband, Herman, all of Parker, SD.
