Cancer of the breast, induced by the pressure of stayes of an ill-fitting corset, caused the death at 2:10 Tuesday afternoon of Mrs. Arilla Montgomery, wife of Willard S. Montgomery, a well-known farmer of Taylor township, living seven and one-half miles north of this city. Mrs. Montgomery had been suffering with the disease since last winter. Mrs. Montgomery was born Arilla Stover near Forrester, Ogle county, Illinois, Oct. 5 1867. When she was 2 years old her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Stover, came to this county and settled in Vienna township, where their daughter was reared. At the parental home, on Feb. 24, 1892, Miss Stover became the wife of Mr. Montgomery. Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery continued to live in Vienna township until a few years ago, when they settled on the old J. H. Montgomery farm in Taylor township. Aside from her husband Mrs. Montgomery is survived by five children, four daughters and a son. The children are Vera, Gladys, Wilna (sic), John, and Fay. Seven brothers and four sisters also are living, in the persons of A. J. Stover, of Ware, Pocahontas county; M. L. and J. F. Stover, of Havelock: David, S. P., and E. A. Stover, of Conrad; E. L. Stover, of Green Mountain; Mrs. A. McLain, of Lyons: Mrs. H. Doty, of Laurens; Mrs. Mills, of Mount Vernon, O.; and Mrs. H. H. McClure, of Green Mountain. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church at Conrad, Rev. F. C. Witzigman officiating. Burial will follow in the Conrad cemetery.
