Stover, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Stover, was born at Adeline, Ill., Nov. 10, 1848, and died at Havelock, Iowa, Oct. 28, 1929, at the age of eighty years, eleven months and eighteen days. He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Evans of Morris, Ill., in Dec. 1872, and to this union five children were born: Harry and Clara, deceased; Nellie and Lewis, of Havelock, and Roy Stover of Ottosen. The family resided in Illinois for some time, later moving to Marshall county, Iowa. In 1890 they moved to Pocahontas county, locating on a farm in Sherman township, south of Havelock. Mr. Stover was for many years active in public affairs in that township, holding various offices and serving on the school board. In 1914 the family moved to Havelock, where they have since made their home. Mr. Stover united with the M.E. church at Ware in 1902, the Havelock and Ware churches being served at that time by the same pastor. He remained faithful to his church to the day of his death. Mr. Stover is survived by his wife, the three children above mentioned, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren in his immediate family. He was one of a family of twelve children, of whom four now survive: Jackson Stover of Gilmore City, David Stover of Marshalltown, Lincoln Stover of Conrad and Mrs. Susan Mills of Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Mr. Stover was a kind and loving husband and father and an honest and upright citizen. He prized his citizenship highly. He was a congenial man of optimistic temperament, a fine neighbor and a steadfast friend. He will be sorely missed by friends old and young in the community. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church, Rev. C.L. Day officiating. A large concourse of relatives and friends were in attendance, and the many and beautiful floral offering attested to the esteem in which the deceased was held. A quartet composed of Mrs. J.C. Barth, Mrs. John DeYoung, J.W. Loots and O.F. Young sang “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” “Asleep in Jesus,” and “We Are Going Down the Valley.” Honorary pallbearers were S.H. Gill and J.H. Eno, and the acting pallbearers were J.B. Sheldon, G.A. Gruver, Fred and Joe Hauswirth, Chas. Mann and B.C. Boysen. Interment was made in Washington Cemetery.
