Description	:	Rita Pauline Ducheneaux worked for the Indian Health Service (IHS) for 33 years as an administrative assistant in Eagle Butte. When she retired from it, it was with reluctance because she knew she would miss the people who touched her life through her work. A compassionate and loving person, Pauline always put her family and friends first. She loved spending time with her family, never forgetting any special occasion. She enjoyed keeping her home immaculate and making unforgettable meals and desserts (never needing a recipe) with her husband, Bud. She enjoyed being outside, doing embroidery work, traveling to many different places... She enjoyed being outside, doing embroidery work, traveling to many different places to attend powwows and other events, and to try her luck at casinos. Pauline's busy life ended Thursday, March 22, 2007, at her home in Eagle Butte at the age of 74. She was born at the Old Cheyenne Agency on Dec. 8, 1932, to Sidney and Kate (Livermont) LeBeau. She grew up along the Moreau River and attended the local grade school. Her family moved to Timber Lake, where she attended Timber Lake High School and graduated in 1951. After graduation she attended Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan. On Jan. 7, 1955, Pauline married the love of her life and lifelong friend, Bud Ducheneaux. They were married for 52 years and six children were born to them. Pauline began her career as a clerk at the tribal office, which emerged into a position at the Old Cheyenne Agency IHS. She then began working for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Rehabilitation Program in Eagle Butte and eventually as administrative assistant. Survivors are her husband, Henry "Bud" Ducheneaux of Eagle Butte; children, Allen (Marge) Ducheneaux, Wade (Diane) Ducheneaux, Henry (Willetta) Ducheneaux, Marsha (Tom) Vrooman, Carol (Harley) Morgan, and Rita "Pete" (Bob) Carlson; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Amelia LaPlante of Chamberlain, Charlotte Conn of Wills Point, Texas, Esther Thompson of Eagle Butte, Lila (Butch) LaDue of Belle Fourche and Caroline (Butch) Thorsen of Aberdeen. Her parents, her brother Melvin LeBeau, three sisters, Caroline LeBeau, Darlene King and Antoinette Claymore, son-in-law Ralphie Vrooman and one grandchild, Sidney Frank Ducheneaux, preceded Pauline in death. Funeral services for Pauline were held this morning, Wednesday, March 28, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Susie Payne sang "Ave Maria," Tom Vrooman sang "In The Garden" and Cindy Farlee was soloist for "Amazing Grace." Casketbearers were Pauline's grandsons, Hadden Ducheneaux, Anthony Ducheneaux, John Ducheneaux, Cory Vrooman, Brandon Morgan and Ryan Vrooman. Honorary bearers were Karen Nitzschke, Marie LeBeau, Ramona Simon, Dr. Upell, Terry and Joyce Pourier, Essie Mae Stevens, Regina Ducheneaux, Eleanor Miner, Linda Jacobsen, Susie Payne, Susan Smart, Marlene Ducheneaux, Janice Eberhard, and all of Pauline's many friends and relatives. Burial was in the Ducheneaux Family Cemetery in Swiftbird under the direction of Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte. A wake service was held Tuesday evening at the church in Eagle Butte.
