Description	:	MADISON - Robert A. Smith, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, in Skowhegan. He was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Anson to Herbert L. and Mildred D. (Gilman) Smith. Robert graduated from Anson Academy with the class of 1954. He was married in Nov, 27, 1954 to Minnie Gertrude Nelson.Robert was an avid outdoor person, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, putting up firewood, gardening, cookouts, mowing lawns, snow blowing for himself and his neighbors, pick berries with family, relaxing on his swing and family gatherings. He was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Anson to Herbert L. and Mildred D. (Gilman) Smith. Robert graduated from Anson Academy with the class of 1954. He was married in Nov, 27, 1954 to Minnie Gertrude Nelson.Robert was an avid outdoor person, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, putting up firewood, gardening, cookouts, mowing lawns, snow blowing for himself and his neighbors, pick berries with family, relaxing on his swing and family gatherings. He loved giving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren rides on the lawnmower. He also enjoyed watching westerns and golf and listening to the Gaithers singing group, country and gospel music. Tinkering in his garage and sharpening knives were also favorite past times. Robert was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Minnie Gertrude "Trudy" Smith; his siblings, Jack Smith, Royal Fogg, Lawrence Smith, Ruth Young; and stepsister Laura Hayden. He is survived by his children Millie Spencer and husband Steve of Madison, Brenda Kougias and companion Steve Wagner of Waconda, Ill., Leslie Smith and wife Patricia of Webster, N.H., Lori Smith of Farmington, and Terry A. Smith of Minot; grandchildren Mike Spencer and wife Melissa of Anson, Marcy Smith of Skowhegan, Jason Spencer and wife Tara of Londonderry, N.H., Sara Dunne and her husband Jonathan of Wilton, Joshua Smith and fiance Kathleen Dubois of Farmington, Eli Smith of Webster N.H., and Catherine Smith of Webster, N.H.; great-grandsons Devon Spencer of Anson, Kaleb Spencer of Anson and Reid Spencer of Londonderry, N.H. and Miles Dunne of Wilton; brothers Russell Smith of Anson and Kenneth Smith of Cornville; sisters-in-law Alberta Nelson of Waterville, and Margaret "Ann" Nelson of Skowhegan, brother in law Paul Nelson and his wife Carolyn of Florida; special companion Joyce Smith and her family of Madison; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Harold Alfond Cancer Center of Augusta for their care for Robert over the past few years, also special thanks to the Madison Police Dept., A & M Ambulance Service, and the Redington-Fairview General Hospital Emergency Room Staff for their supportive care. Interment will be later in the spring at the Emery Cemetery, Anson. Arrangements for cremation are under the care of Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St. Madison.
