Ill for some time, Mr. Phinney had been confined to his bed for several months. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church. Services were conducted by Rev. N.A. Luke of St. Lawrence, and burial was made in the family plot in the G.A.R. cemetery. Robert Anderson Phinney was born in Douglas County, Ill., on May 23, 1861. He came to Hand county in March 1884, and took up a homestead here. With the exception of a few years spent in Illinois and Missouri, he has lived in Hand county since he came n 1884. On May 3, 1891, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Kelly, and to them were born nine children, all of whom are still living. Mrs. Phinney passed away Maya 26, 1942, just 23 days after their 51st wedding anniversary. Mr. Phinney united with the Church of Christ in 1908, and has always taken an active part in church work. For almost 40 years he worked at the carpenter trade, until 1941, when he was forced to retire on account of ill health. He was a devoted husband and father and spent the last few years faithfully caring for his invalid wife. He leaves to mourn his passing, two sons and seven daughters; Mattie Kilgore, Dallas Center, Ia.; Leda Wood, St. Paul, Minn.; Jennie Syring, Wessington, S.D.; Flossie Renshaw, St. Lawrence, S.D.; Rose Wood, St. Paul, Minn.; Clara Putman, Pampa, Tex.; Ted Phinney, Harrold, S.D.; Bayard Phinney R.T. 1-c U.S. Navy; Lucille Phinney, Miller. There are 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
