He was born August 10, 1919 at the homestead ranch of his parents John and Helen (Summers) Perrins near Dupuyer, Montana. His family moved to Kent, Washington where Bob graduated from high school in 1936. He worked in construction to support his first 2 years of college until World War II began. After seeing 4 years in the Army he returned to the University of Washington where he graduated with a degree in Structural Engineering and 180 crews to spare. It was then he met his wife, Lola Westervelt to whom he had been married for 62 years. In 1949 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis which he valiantly fought the rest of his life. His family never heard a word of complaint or frustration from Bob about having to deal with the physical limitations the disease of MS had afflicted him with. While living in Seattle Bob walked 2 miles every night after work, without fail, rain or shine (and in Seattle there was more rain than shine!). His determination to keep active physically kept him out of a wheel chair until the age of 89. He was a true example of perseverance under adversity. Despite his disability, and a demanding job, Bob found time and energy to design and build a house. The sale of this house financed his dream - a ranch in Montana. He and Lola and their young family sheep-ranched near Big Timber for two years which Bob considered the best two years of his life. Economics forced him to return to Seattle and his career with the Army Corp of Engineers, where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1984. Bob and Lola then moved back to Montana and built their dream home-a lovely log house with a fabulous view of the Crazy Mountains, on 90 acres outside of Big Timber. Many happy family times with children and grandchildren were spent there. Bob was a devoted family man and spent many a night under the hood of a car keeping the family auto's purring along. His other hobbies included reloading his own ammo and shooting at the local rifle and pistol range, square dancing, and camping with the family. Bob was also an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast-working the puzzles in ink, of course! He was a faithful attendee at the Evangelical Church, and supported a Compassion International child in Rwanda. He is survived by his wife, Lola, and three children - Valerie (Mark) Heilman of Columbus, Kim (Tom) Winters of Big Timber, and a son Milo (Kathie) of Bozeman; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
