Description	:	son of Harry and Clara (Busta) Soukup Viet Nam war veteran Robert "Bob" Soukup, 69, of New Hampton, died at his home in Arizona on Thursday, Dec. 27, of cancer. He was born Sept. 15, 1943, in New Hampton, son of Harry and Clara Busta Soukup. He married Betty Leuenberger in 1968 in Fairbank. He graduated from New Hampton Schools in 1961. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 and served in Vietnam. Mr. Soukup worked various jobs in the New Hampton area until 1987 when he joined the staff of Congressman Dave Nagle. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1964 and served in Vietnam. Mr. Soukup worked various jobs in the New Hampton area until 1987 when he joined the staff of Congressman Dave Nagle. He then worked in Des Moines for U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin and this led to his appointment by Pres. Clinton to be the Midwest Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He later became the Economic Development Director for the city of New Hampton. Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Sybil Soukup of Clear Lake; two sons, Hans (Peggy) of Eau Claire, Wis., and Zachary of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Bill Straw of New Hampton. Preceded in death by: two sisters, Ruth Straw and Margaret Hoge. Memorial services: will be held in New Hampton at a later date. Per his wishes he was cremated. Private family inurnment will be held in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton. Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.
