Description	:	Robert C. Walker, 89, died at 8:45 a.m. May 11, 2013, at Lost Creek Care Center. He was born July 2, 1923, in Findlay to Harry and Minnie Ferguson Walker, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 23, 1947, he married Lena Madonia, who survives. Mr. Walker retired from Lima State Hospital as a corrections officer and had also worked at Buckeye Rubber. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards. He also made fishing lures. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He enjoyed cooking at the church functions. He... Read More	Robert C. Walker, 89, died at 8:45 a.m. May 11, 2013, at Lost Creek Care Center. He was born July 2, 1923, in Findlay to Harry and Minnie Ferguson Walker, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 23, 1947, he married Lena Madonia, who survives. Mr. Walker retired from Lima State Hospital as a corrections officer and had also worked at Buckeye Rubber. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards. He also made fishing lures. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He enjoyed cooking at the church functions. He was a board member at Gethsemani Cemetery, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 and American Legion Post 96. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with the 29th Infantry Division from 1943 to 1946, attaining the rank of sergeant. He was on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and serve continuously until the capture of St. Lo on July 18, 1944. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition during the liberation of France, Certificate of Enrollment at World War II Memorial, Presidential Unit Citation, four Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead. Survivors also include a son, Larry (Cheryl Lehman) Walker, of Bellefontaine. He was preceded in death by a son, Denny Walker; and a sister, Alice Smith. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church. The Rev. David Ross will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. Lima News May 13, 2013
