Robert Carl Schwichtenberg was born September 11, 1896, in Tulare Township near Crandon, to August and Marie (Wendt) Schwichtenberg. He married Lillian Hardie March 30, 1921. She died in 1974. He lived near Tulare until 1976, when he moved to Bozeman, Montana, and in 1982 to the IOOF Home in Dell Rapids. He had served on the county school board 21 years, the ASC Board 32 years, was supervisor of the Spink County Soil and Water Conservation District 23 years and worked for Federal Crop Insurance 15 years. He was active in the Lutheran Chuch at Crandon and in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Redfield. He was a member of the IOOF and Rebekahs, for which he served as Grand Master of the state of South Dakota in 1946 and 1947, and a member of the Masonic Order at Tulare and the United COmmercial Travelers, for which he served as Grand Counselor of the State of South Dakota in 1964. Survivors include two sons: Duane, Lakeland, Florida, and Daryl, Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter: Mrs. Wallace (Doreen) Arneson, Bozeman, Montana; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one infant daughter, one brother and two sisters.
