Robert Cloyd Bowers, 71, of 716 W. Eureka-st was dead on arrival at St. Rita's hospital at 1:15 p.m., attaches said. Dr. Richard J. Biery, Allen-co coroner, returned a verdict of accidental death after questioning four of the victim's fellow workers who witnessed the accident. Bowers, an assistant caretaker at the cemetery, was climbing a ladder to the roof when the fatal accident occurred, Dr. Biery said. Witnesses said the ladder slipped, pitching Bowers head first to the ground. He suffered a fractured neck, fractured skull and brain concussion, Dr. Biery said. The mausoleum is located at the south end of the cemetery. Bowers was born March 11, 1882, in Findlay and came to Lima in 1915. A former employe of Westinghouse Electric Corp., he resigned in 1947 to take the caretaker's position. Surviving are his widow, Florence K.; a son, Robert C., Jr., Route 3; a foster son, Clyde Baker and a stepson, Eugene Beams, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Clarence Cox, 1031 1/2 W. North-st; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Roger Andrews, 1401 Ellison-dr and Mrs. Walter Wood, 2320 Baywood-dr; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Spence, Adrian, Mich., and eight grandchildren. Services, in charge of Chiles and Son funeral home, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Church of the Nazarene, the Rev. M. E. Clay officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
