Born January 30, 1927 in The Plains, he was the son of the late Ervin Channell and Gertie Bowersock Channell. Born January 30, 1927 in The Plains, he was the son of the late Ervin Channell and Gertie Bowersock Channell. Dale graduated in 1947 from The Plains High School after serving 2 years in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he served in World War II for 2 years as a Seaman 1st class. He served aboard an aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Windham Bay, in the Pacific Ocean at the Philippines, Guam, and Pearl Harbor. He was a member of The Plains United Methodist Church, Paramuthia Lodge 25 F&AM where he served as Worshipful Master in 1970, Athens Chapter 39 R.A.M., Athens Council 15 R& SM, Athens Commandery 15 KT, life member and charter member of The Plains VFW Post 7174, and a 60 year member of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion. He played 2 years of semi-professional football in Mansfield. Dale played football, basketball, and baseball in High School. One of his hobbies was playing golf. He was a former member of the Athens Country Club. In his adult life he liked and enjoyed trading and owning antique cars. Dale was a past Athens High School Band President. He also was an Athens High School football fan who sat in the bleachers at the 50 yard line at R. Basil Rutter Stadium. He retired from Columbus and Southern Electric after 33 years. At Columbus and Southern he was a Lab Technician at Poston Power Station. His past jobs included: working on the railroad, Imperial-Fairmont Ice Cream Co., Nelsonville Pure Milk, Athens Ice and Storage, Westinghouse, Nelsonville Foundry, and Smith Nelson Car Sales in Pomeroy. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Dottie Brown Channell; two daughters Brenda (Scott) Pennington of Oregon, Ohio and Ginger (Bill) Baringer of Guysville; seven grandchildren- Tabitha (Chaz) McComas of Stewart, Natasha (finance Tommy Schall) of Amesville, Adale Baringer of Guysville, Andrew, Christopher, Joshua, and Kaitlyn Pennington, all of Oregon; two great grandchildren- Zaiden McComas of Stewart and Kylie Pennington of Oregon; nephews- Bill (Suzanne) Duncan of Texas, Dana (Deanna) Channell of The Plains, David McBride of Athens, and Roger (Paula) Brown of Millfield; nieces- Mary (Russ) Elliott of Centerville, Donna (Garry) Bruce of The Plains, Diana (Ray) Blowers of Beavercreek, and Carol (Jeff) Koehler of Guysville; three cousins- Maggi Channell and Ann Lavelle both of Athens and Othella Porter; also surviving is a former son-in-law, Brent Keirns of Amesville. He is preceded in death by a brother, Bill (Helen) Channell; a sister, Glenna (Harold) Duncan; and two brothers-in-law- Earl (Donna) Brown and Nicky (Edna) McBride. Funeral service will be conducted Monday 1:00PM in Jagers & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Taylor and Rev. Joel Harbarger officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9PM at the funeral home. Paramuthia Lodge 25 F&AM will hold Masonic services Sunday 4:00PM at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion, VFW Post 3477 and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to The Plains United Methodist Church, 3 N.
