Description	:	Robert Dean Grinstead, 97, of Ottumwa, died at 6:05 a.m. November 25, 2020 at his home. He was born June 26, 1923 in Davis County to Beryl and Eva Howard Grinstead. He married Helen Lucille Francis August 1, 1942 and she preceded him in death May 6, 1978. He had his teams of horses in parades all over the area and was always... Read More	Robert Dean Grinstead, 97, of Ottumwa, died at 6:05 a.m. November 25, 2020 at his home. He was born June 26, 1923 in Davis County to Beryl and Eva Howard Grinstead. He married Helen Lucille Francis August 1, 1942 and she preceded him in death May 6, 1978. A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Dean farmed and was a tool grinder for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1978. Dean had horses all his life and draft horses for over 30 years. He had his teams of horses in parades all over the area and was always eager to give wagon rides. For 10 years he gave wagon rides for the Moravia Tour of Lights on Thanksgiving weekend. He was a member of the Ottumwa Saddle Club and participated in the trail ride from Ft. Madison to Ottumwa for a number of years. Besides loving his horses, Dean loved being with his family and watching grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. He especially loved babies. Surviving are his children, Larry (Marla) Grinstead of Cunningham, TN, Mike (Linda) Grinstead of Ottumwa, Chris (Susie) Grinstead of Riverside, IA, Jim (LeAnn) Grinstead of Deforest, WI, Cindy Grinstead of Ottumwa and Janice Mefford of Wichita, KS; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Proctor of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Lois Johnson and Yvonne Buster; and his brother, Duane Grinstead. Limited open visitation for friends will be 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 2nd at Reece Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 3rd at Reece Funeral Home. For those unable to attend the service, you may watch live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Cremation will follow the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dean's memory to the Ottumwa Saddle Club. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Society Hospice for everything they did for him.
