Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Hemingford United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the Alliance Country Club. Bob was born August 21, 1930, in Alliance, the son of William R. and Rosa M. (Annen) Kiester. He grew up and lived in Hemingford until 2008. Bob graduated from Hemingford High School in 1948. He served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1949 – 1954. On July 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Roth at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford. They lived and raised their family on their farm one mile north of Hemingford. Bob was a farmer his entire life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Bob served on the Rural Fire Dept. as President for 25 years and was a member of the Hemingford Fire Dept. for 17 years. He was an active member of the Box Butte County Fair Board for 25 years, serving as President for 10 years. Bob was elected to the Nebraska State Fair Board in 1976 and retired in 1991. He was a member of the Hemingford Board of Education for three years and its Vice President for one year, a member of the United Methodist Church board of trustees and several church committees, the Box Butte County School Reorganization Committee for four years, the Cornhusker Education Association board, the Wheat Growers Assn., and a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Bob also aided the city with emergency snow removal from business sidewalks and driveways all over town. Bob was recognized as Hemingford Community Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1969 and Bob and Dixie were recognized as Old Timers of the Year in 2006. Survivors include his wife Dixie Lee (Roth); son,Kirt (Laura) Kiester and grandchildren Andrea, Alex and Lilly of Tampa, Fla.; daughter Gay (Craig) Wilson and grandchildren Sarah, Phillip, and Mark of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and daughter-in-law Lori Kiester and grandchildren Kasandra and Kolton of North Branch, Minn. Preceding him in death were his parents William and Rosa; sister Elizabeth (died at birth); brothers Bill, Kenneth, and Willard; and son Kelly J. Kiester Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He had a kind and generous spirit, and knew the importance of volunteering and giving back to the community. Most of all Bob enjoyed visiting and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all.
