Description	:	Robert Edwin Hablitzel went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2009, at the age of 99. Born in 1910, he is survived by six children, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His wife of nearly 60 years, Marie Hablitzel, preceded him in death in 2007. Born in Illinois, Robert was raised in Shaw, Kansas and worked on the family farm until he entered the service. Read More	Robert Edwin Hablitzel went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2009, at the age of 99. Born in 1910, he is survived by six children, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His wife of nearly 60 years, Marie Hablitzel, preceded him in death in 2007. Born in Illinois, Robert was raised in Shaw, Kansas and worked on the family farm until he entered the service. After World War II, Robert and his parents, Samuel and Martha Hablitzel, joined his brother Richard and his wife Bernice in California. They raised sheep on a ranch west of Red Bluff. In 1947 Bob married Marie Eaton and the couple started their family. He went to work for Red Bluff Moulding Mill Commander Industries where he held a variety of positions until his retirement at the age of 65. Serving in the army during World War II, he reached the rank of First Lieutenant and was commended for exemplary courage and calmness under fire. He wrote touching letters to the families of his fallen soldiers, and when cited for the Bronze Star Medal, he insisted that seven others receive the medal alongside him. Robert's Bible was well worn with handwritten notes throughout. The Hablitzels were early members of Community Baptist Church in Red Bluff and he found comfort in his relationship with the Lord all through his life. The Vintage Rose Inn of Red Bluff cared for him during his last three years. His family is greatful for their friendship and for the homelike environment they provided. Robert's sister, Thelma Walburn is 100 and a half and lives in Butler, Missouri. One brother, Richard Hablitzel and his wife Bernice of Red Bluff preceded him in death, as well as an infant son, Bruce. His surviving children are Robert D. (Leona) Hablitzel of El Dorado Hills, Anne Hablitzel of Vermont, Steven (Marylynn) Hablitzel of Red Bluff, Kimberley (Randy) Stitzer of Washington, Timothy (Alice) Hablitzel of Manteca and Julie Hablitzel of Red Bluff. He is also survived by Rose Hablitzel of Red Bluff. His grandchildren are Kindra Garcia, Ryan (Renee) Hablitzel, Krissy (Saxon) Peters, Peter Hablitzel, Michael (Heather) Hablitzel, Ian Johnson, Maryanne Hablitzel, Sam Hablitzel, Michelle Stitzer and Tyler Stitzer. He is also survived by Julianna Hablitzel. His great-grandchildren are Gavin, Abby and Reuben Hablitzel. Robert's funeral service will he held at 2:00 on Friday, March 13th at Hoyt-Cole Chapel of the Flowers, 816 Walnut Street, Red Bluff. Published in the Daily News on 3/11/2009
