Description	:	Robert Ellsworth Valentine, the son of Lawrence and Nellie Lord Valentine, was born in York County, Nebraska on November 4, 1924, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on November 30, 1981, at the age of 57 years and 26 days. Read More	Robert Ellsworth Valentine, the son of Lawrence and Nellie Lord Valentine, was born in York County, Nebraska on November 4, 1924, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on November 30, 1981, at the age of 57 years and 26 days. He grew up near McCool Junction and graduated from McCool High School in 1943. Bob farmed with his dad and cooked in a café until June of 1945, when he entered the United States Army. After his discharge in February of 1946 he returned to McCool and farmed with his dad and did carpenter work. He married Eva Ruth Runyan on September 5, 1948, at Mason City, Nebraska. To this union were born four boys and 2 girls. From 1949 to 1950 he worked for Standard Brands in York, then joined his father in masonry trade. In January of 1952 he began working for Consumers Public Power in Superior, Nebraska and transferred to Aurora in 1952, where he has since resided. Bob was an avid sportsman, active in many areas. He played baseball with Aurora when they were a member of the Blue Valley League. He was involved in Legion baseball and coached little league and girls softball. In softball he had played, coached, was a state umpire and district commissioner. Bob was chosen most valuable pitcher in the Class B Platte-Duetsche tournament in Grand Island in 1980. He had received the Jim Hall award for participation in youth softball several years ago. In 1981 he was induced into the Nebraska Hall of Fame, which is the states highest award for softball. Bob became interested in boxing during his time in the Army, earning several awards. He then boxed and was active in Golden Gloves, where he earned many awards and trophies, and served as a referee, judge, coach and trainer. He served as a state inspector for the Nebraska Boxing Commission. He had been a member of the Aurora Jaycees, with one of his awards being outstanding young man. He had been a leader of Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #42 in Aurora, the Platte-Duetsche in Grand Island and the Federated Church. Bob loved fishing, camping, hunting and all outdoor activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Theresa and one brother Leslie. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Ruth; four sons, Robert Leslie of Aurora, Thomas Eugene of Hastings, Stuart Alan and Jerry Lee both at home; one daughter Nancy Julene Bieck of Giltner; one brother Frank of York; two sisters, Patricia Green of Lincoln and Joan Johnson of Bozeman, Montana; 7 grandchildren and other relatives and many close friends.
