Description	:	Robert E. Lindsey, age 95, longtime Richmond resident and educator, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Heartland of Eaton where he had resided for 13 years. Bob will be best remembered as an outstanding educator with the Richmond Community Schools. His lifelong goal was to offer students a promising future. Lindsey, age 95, longtime Richmond resident and educator, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Heartland of Eaton where he had resided for 13 years. Bob will be best remembered as an outstanding educator with the Richmond Community Schools. His lifelong goal was to offer students a promising future. He was the Vocational Coordinator and Director of Adult Evening Schools here with a career that spanned 38 years of service. Bob's hours of dedication to develop and nurture these programs provided many opportunities for Richmond students and adults alike. Robert was born to Grover and Blanch Lindsey in Center Township of Wayne County, Indiana, on April 11, 1918. He was raised near Oxford, Ohio, and graduated from William McGuffey High School in 1937. He then entered Miami University of Ohio and earned his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Education. His first teaching position was in Mt. Healthy, Ohio, at the High School where he taught P.E. and was the Head Football Coach. It was in Mt. Healthy that he met his wife of over 60 years, Georgia Fight Lindsey. She was also a Miami University graduate and taught elementary school in Mt. Healthy. Bob was a WWII, United States Army Veteran. He was drafted in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theatre at Iwo Jima. Bob was a commissioned Second Lieutenant and was assigned to the 483rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He stayed in touch with his comrades throughout his life. Upon separation from service he was promoted to the rank of Captain. Bob was awarded the "American Theater" ribbon, the "Asiatic-Pacific" ribbon with two battle stars, and the "Victory" ribbon. When he returned from WWII, he began his teaching career at Dennis Jr. High School in Richmond. He also taught at Richmond Senior High School. He moved his family briefly to Rushville, Indiana, where he served as Vocational Coordinator and Director of Adult Education for two years. He was then offered the same position with the Richmond Community Schools. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia, in December of 2001. Bob's only son, Daryl Scott Lindsey, also passed away in January of 2011. Previously, he was preceded by his parents, his young sister, Nelda, and his only brother, Thomas Lindsey of Seven Mile, Ohio. Bob is survived by his daughters, Jeanie Lindsey of Richmond, Indiana, and Judy Lindsey Shaffer and her husband Steve of Lexington, Kentucky. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Jackie Lindsey, of Centerville, Ohio, and her children, Penny Anne (Mark) Wenning of Centerville, Ohio, Jack (Tammy) Jarman of Wilmington, North Carolina, and Gene (Angie) Jarman of Dayton, Ohio, and their children, Brandon, Nickolas, and Maranda. Other survivors include Bob's brother's children, Marilyn (Dick) Lindsey Hartman, and her brother, Donnie (JoAnne) Lindsey, four great-nieces, and two great-nephews. Visitation for Robert E. Lindsey will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. His remembrance funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Chaplain Lyle Beal officiating. Note: Robert also has a grave marker in Earlham Cemetery, Richmond, Indiana.
