Description	:	Robert E. "Bob" Larson, 91, of Watertown, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, in his home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with Reverend Dennis Hansen and Reverend Marian Paulis officiating. Music will be provided by Judy Everson as soloist and Marcia Jelsman as organist. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Military Honors will be conducted by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion and SD Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Watertown. Bob was born at home in Watertown, South Dakota, to the late Gustave and Edith (Johnson) Larson. He attended Watertown public schools and graduated from Watertown High School in 1939. After graduation, he attended Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran College for two years before enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps. A World War II veteran, he served as a B-17 navigator in the 379th Bomber Group (Heavy), Triangle K division. His crew flew 35 missions including two on D-day. Upon his return, he was first sent to Rapid City as a trainer and was then transferred to Wendover, Utah, where he was part of the group that transported the scientists and materials involved in the Manhattan Project. While in officer training, he married Betty Eileen Johnson on October 14, 1943, and after his discharge, he returned to Watertown where he joined the family business, Larson's Clothing Co. He ran Larson's, along with his two brothers, until his retirement in 1980. He was active in his community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees and the Rotary Club among others. Bob's faith was very important to him; a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran, he sang in the Sr. Choir for more than 40 years and served on the church council including several years as its President. When he and Betty began spending winters in Seguin, Texas, The Chapel at Texas Lutheran College and its fellowship became an integral part of their lives and continued to be Bob's Church family after her death until the present. Bob's other passion was sports, whether as a participant or observer, he truly enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, basketball, and baseball. In 1984 when he was 63 years old, he shot 63 at the Watertown Country Club, which remained the course record for many years until it was broken by a professional. He also shot lower than his age several times when he reached 70. Over the years, he won more than 15 Club Championships at WCC and made 10 holes-in-one over his lifetime. He was medalist several times at the South Dakota State Men's Match Play tournament and was also a runner-up multiple times in that event. He won two S.D. State Sr. Championship in 1974 and 1980 and was SD Senior Golfer of the year in 1980. Bob enjoyed doing things for himself and, until his recent illness, he was managing homes in both Watertown and Seguin, hunting, and could frequently be seen mowing his own yard. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Betty; brothers, Waldemar "Bud" and William Larson; and a granddaughter, Lynn E. Anderson. Bob is survived by his daughters, Kathy Anderson, of Omaha, NE, Mary Jorgensen and husband, Tom, of Parker, CO, and Becky Pessolano and husband, Mike, of Springfield, MA; son, Tom Larson and wife, Joan, of Watertown, SD; grandchildren, Chris Larson and wife, Alison, Robert Anderson, Tim Larson and wife, Lesa, and Gus Pessolano; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
