Robert passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn at the age of 97 years, eight months and seven days. Robert Francis Schuster was born at home near Eden on December 26, 1918 to John and Katherine (Halbauer) Schuster. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. He was raised on the family farm in Marshall County and attended country school #5 through the eighth grade. At the age of 16, Robert went to work for area farmers. He did a number of different things, including threshing, shocking and making hay. During the Great Depression he worked for the Works Progress Administration building bridges. On June 1, 1947 he was united in marriage with Florentine Deutsch of Eden. They made their home in rural Eden where they raised their six children. They built a home on their farm, and Robert remained in that home until just one week before his death. A stroke and a fall took him to the Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton on September 1st, and later was transferred to Strand-Kjorsvig Home in Roslyn on September 6th, where he passed away the next day. Robert was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden. He also belonged to the National Farmers Organization. He worked with those to help bring Highway 25 to Eden, and also worked with his brother, George to maintain telephone lines from Roslyn to Eden. Robert was a farmer, all of his life. He was the first in the area to own a combine, snowmobile, motorcycle and television set. He enjoyed trapping, and could skin a muskrat in less than eight seconds! He also enjoyed coon hunting. His real passion, however, was his potato patch and vegetable garden. Grateful for having shared his life are his six children: Donald (Arla Dean) Schuster, Larry Schuster, Gloria Kurkowski, Bev Dolney, Evonne (Joe) Lesnar and Corinne (John) Mahlen; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters: Alvina (Otto) Heitmann, Hilda (Raymond) Sattler, Ida (Carl) Lentsch; seven brothers: George (Othilda) Schuster, William (Doris) Schuster, Lambert (Rose) Schuster, Raymond (Marjory) Schuster, Florenze Schuster, Norman (Hilde) (Dorthy) Schuster, Eugene (Evelyn) Schuster and a son-in-law, Eugene Kurkowski.
