Crawford Sr. and Helen M. Nichols Crawford, on Feb. 19, 1941, in Baltimore, Md. He and his wife, Alice Ann Crawford, were killed in a car accident on May 11, 2001, in Austin, Texas. Robert was 60 at the time of his death. Although born in Maryland, he spent his childhood in Fillmore county. He attended Fairmont High School, where he was active in athletics. Following graduation from high school in 1959, Bob joined the Air Force. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam and eventually retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service. Following retirement from the military, he settled in Texas, but never forgot his roots and his love for his native Nebraska. In recent years, he had spent his leisure time enjoying his family, traveling, spending time with friends, and working in many church activities. Bob was noted for the fun and excitement he brought to any occasion and for his infectious laugh. He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Helen Hofferber; son, Brian Crawford; daughter, Sherri Jeffrey and husband, Tim; step-sons, Charles Barrett Fisher and wife, Tracy; Keith Joseph Fisher, and Jared Curtis Fisher; grandchildren, Hunter Jeffrey and Jordan Fisher; brothers, Harry Crawford, Maurice Crawford, John Hofferber, Steven Hofferber, David Crawford; Steve Crawford; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry S. Crawford Sr. and by a sister, Barbara Becker. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., May 17, 2001, from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva, with Rev. Brian Kottas officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied vocalists, Ray and Margaret Nichols who sang “Amazing Grace” and “Hymn of Promise.” Casket bearers were Brian Crawford, David Crawford, Bill Becker, Harry Crawford, Steve Hofferber, Kelly Crawford, Linda Paul, Dick Nichols, Larry Nichols, and Charles Nichols. Interment with military honors was held at the Geneva Public Cemetery. The honor guard was provided by the Geneva American Legion and V.F.W. Posts. The Nebraska Signal May 23rd, 2001 page 11.
