Description	:	CROFTON - Robert F. Uhing, 73, of Crofton died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at the Bloomfield Good Samaritan Center. Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church here with the Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating and burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the church and continue one hour prior to service Wednesday. Wintz Funeral Home is in charge. --- Robert was born on Dec. 18, 1935, at Hartington to William A. and Bernadine L. (Frigge) Uhing. He grew up on a farm northeast of Hartington and graduated from Wynot High School in 1954. He married Janita Arens on Nov. 11, 1957, at Bow Valley, and to this union seven children were born. They farmed in South Dakota until 1965 when they moved and began farming in the Niobrara and Lindy area. Robert retired in 2007 and moved into Crofton. He was a former member of the St. William's Catholic Church in Niobrara and was a former member and chairman of the Niobrara Volunteer Fire Department Board for 25 years. He also was a former member of the Santee Township Board and the NFO. He currently was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton. Robert sold feed for many years, and he liked to play cards, travel and visit with his friends. He also enjoyed doing genealogy work with his loving wife of 51 years. Robert is survived by his wife, Janita Uhing of Crofton; seven children and their spouses, Charleen and Darrell Beckel of Lake Park, Iowa, Steve and Karen Uhing of Bloomfield, Stan and Mary Jane Uhing of Crofton, Rose and Wilfred Greitens of Fremont, Robert Uhing Jr. of Norfolk, Carol Uhing of Norfolk, Mary and Brian Andreasen of Kennard; 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jeanette and Don Whitney of Guthrie Center, Iowa, Joleen and John Manino of Bellevue, Claudette Wieseler of Bellevue, Joyce Salvatori of Bellevue, Janice and Melvin Meyer of Bellevue; two brothers, Kenneth and Dolorita Uhing of Hartington and William and Cleopha Uhing of Yankton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Amy Uhing; two sisters, Stella Goeken and Elaine Ingberg; and two brothers-in-law, Verne Willms and John Goeken Sr. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Vernon Arens, David Arens, Larry Koch, John Goeken Jr., Tom Uhing and Kevin Uhing.
