Robert Glenn McConnell, age 89 of Wilmont Street, Anderson, SC passed away on November 2, 2013. He was born August 4, 1924 and was retired from Davis Electrical and Fluor Daniel. He was a faithful member of the Varennes Heights Baptist Church for over 45 years serving as an usher and attending the Men's Sunday School Class. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many outdoor activities especially his garden. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Ruth Gilstrap McConnell of 66 years; two daughters Mary McConnell Drew and her husband Dr. Sam Drew, and Martha McConnell Houston and her husband Reverend Mitch Houston all of Columbia, SC; a sister Ruby McConnell Lovell; 4 grandchildren, Dr. John Drew and his wife Jessica, Dr. Emily Drew, Christopher Houston and Benjamin Houston; and one great grandson, Jackson Drew. In addition to his parents, George Newton and Sally Crone McConnell, he was preceded in death by his siblings, George McConnell, Opal McConnell Newsome, Earl McConnell, Frank McConnell and Cecil McConnell. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Kirt Mitchell and Reverend Weldon Sellers officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home prior to the service from Noon until 12:45 p.m. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Varennes Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 411 Visage Drive, Anderson, SC 29626.
