Description	:	Robert J. ‘Bob’ Oines was born on June 9, 1942, in Brookings, SD, the son of Herby and Ruby (Larson) Oines. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. He attended school in Brookings and was a graduate of Brookings High School in 1960. Bob served in the South Dakota Army National Guard for six years. Read More	Robert J. ‘Bob’ Oines was born on June 9, 1942, in Brookings, SD, the son of Herby and Ruby (Larson) Oines. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. He attended school in Brookings and was a graduate of Brookings High School in 1960. Bob served in the South Dakota Army National Guard for six years. He was united in marriage to Linda McLaughlin on September 17, 1966, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. The couple was blessed with two daughters, Michele and Renae. He attended South Dakota State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1972. Through the years he worked in construction, Insurance Sales and was grounds supervisor at SDSU where he retired in 2006. Bob will always be known to many as “Honker”. He was a devout member of First Lutheran Church, faithfully volunteering with various church events, especially Meals on Wheels with Pastor Nyla. Bob loved to fish and hunt and give out a wise crack or two, just to keep you on your toes! He was a loyal Vikings fan, even through the bad seasons, which let’s face it, there were many. He enjoyed raising his garden. His family was more important than anything else, as he loved to spend time with each and every one of them. He was a proud grandpa to his grandchildren and great grandson. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Oines, of Brookings, SD; two daughters, Michele Kelliher (significant other, Darwin Hogan), of Watertown, SD and Renae (Sam) Becher, of El Paso, TX; four grandchildren, Michael and Chelsea Kelliher and Brianna and Evan Becher; one great grandson, Madden; brother, Paul (Marilyn) Oines of Westerville, OH; along with several nieces and nephews.
