Young Sr. and Tisha "Ted" Clark Young, was born on April 6, 1920 in rural Shenandoah, Iowa and passed away October 10, 1998 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 78 years of age. As a boy growing up on his parents farm there was seldom a time for anything but work. Graduating from Essex High School in 1938 and marrying his high school sweetheart Marice Geraldine Almquist in 1942 was the beginning of 56 happy, prosperous, wonderful years. Bob and Marice were united in marriage April 28, 1942 in Papillion, Nebraska. Following their marriage they farmed near Essex until Bob retired in 1982 and moved into Essex. Bob enjoyed "trading" work with his neighbors, at a time when neighbors worked together everyday. Owing and flying small airplanes consumed much of his leisure time in the '40's and '50's, being a member of the Essex Flying Club. Bob was a member of the Faith Evangelical Covenant Church in Essex, where he served in numerous capacities. He was always present with words of encouragement and support when his sons participated in sports. If you were to ask him, he would surely tell you he never missed a game. For the past 20 years, Bob's passion has been watching his grandchildren grow, which hasn't always been easy, since his other passion, (winters in Arizona) kept him away from his children and grandchildren several months of the year. Through the years, the one constant in anything Bob did has been Marice. Whether farming, flying airplanes, attending church services, vacationing, watching ballgames, or just playing a friendly game of cards, his wife of 56 years was at his side, always! Preceding Bob in death were his parents and one brother, Clarence L. Young, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Marice Young of Essex, two sons, Steve Young and wife Toni and their children, Devon and Mahala of Dallas, Texas, and Larry Young and wife Kelly and their children, Tobias, Andrew, and T.J. of Essex, and one brother Donald Young of Arizona, other relatives and friends.
