HOOK After an illness of but a few a hours, Jasper R. Hook, died at his home near Headwaters, on Saturday evening, July 26th, aged about t 48 years. Mr. Hook was well known at Monterey and in the eastern part of tho county, and the sad news of his sudden death came as a severe shock to those who had so recently seen him in apparently his usual health. On Thursday (court day) he was in Monterey and transacted some business at the Clerk's office and at other places in town, returning to his home early in the evening. On Saturday morning he, in company of with his wife, drove over to McDowell and did some trading at the stores, returning home about noon, and it was upon his arrival at home that he was taken violently ill, the seriousness of the situation being so apparent to Mrs. Hook, that she immediately dispatched a messenger to McDowell for a physician, but before tho messenger had even reached the physician Mr. Hook was dead. His oldest daughter who is a teacher, and was attending the normal at McDowell was also summoned but did not reach her father's bed side until after his death. Mr Hook was healthy looking, strong and muscular, but of late years he had been subject to spells with his heart, and it was one of these that was the direct cause of his death. Mr. Hook leaves a wife, who was a Miss Leach, and two grown daughters. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Benj. T. Hook, of the Cowpasture, and is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lucy Curtis who makes her home with her parents, and two brothers Mr. George Hook of the Cowpasture, and Mr. Albert Hook of near Norfolk. All who knew Jasper liked him, he was a generous, kind heartedman.
