The Rev. Gary Hatcher officiated at the services. Robert Gerdes of Langworthy died Tuesday, June 23, in his home after a sudden illness. Robert Gerdes was born December 2, 1922 at Langworthy, the son of Carl and Anna Schaefer Gerdes. He received his education at the Frog Hollow School in Cass Township, Jones County. he married Celestia Kuhns May 4, 1942 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Langworthy where Bob worked at the lumberyard and also farmed with his family. He later farmed the Gerdes family farm where they made their home until 1971 when they moved to their new home. he was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran church where he had served on the church council. he also served on the Farm Bureau Board, and on the Farm Service Board, where he had served as president and treasurer. Survivors include his wife; a son, Merle of Monticello; and two daughters, Marlene Dusanek of Grand Mound and Mary Arnold of Coppell, Texas, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Honorary bearers were Don Stickle, Eli Shada, Ron Hanson, J.R. Ehlers, James Maurice, Randy Ehlers, and Wesley Waterhouse. Casket bearers ere Matt Gerdes, Wes Gerdes, Brett Kirby, Jon Dusanek, David Ertz, and Paul Harbeck. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
