Celestia was born July 14, 1923 at Scotch Grove, the daughter of Lestus and Nellie Heinrichs Kuhns. She received her education in Monticello. On May 4, 1942, she was united in marriage with Robert Gerdes at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Langworthy where they farmed with Bob’s family. They later farmed on the family farm where they lived until 1971 at which time they moved to their new home. Celestia Gerdes was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Sarah’s Circle. She was also a member of the Cass Homemaker and a leader for 4-H clubs. Survivors include a son, Merle of Monticello; two daughters, Marlene Dusanek of Grand Mound and Mary Arnold of Coppell, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grand-children; three step-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Eunice Allen, Greta Aldrich, both of Monticello, and Arlene Holub of Fennimore, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on June 23, 1992; two sisters, Wilma Zado, Lois Eilers and four brothers: Mike, Galen, Kermit and Kenneth Kuhns. Casket bearers were Matthew Gerdes, Wesley Gerdes, Brett Kirby, Scott Dunkin, John Dusanek, David Ertz. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
