Bob was the son of Alvin and Dora (Peterson) Swanson. He grew up on the family farm in McKinney Township. Read More	Kenmare News, Kenmare, ND October 17, 2018 Robert Swanson, 83, Tolley, ND died on Sunday, October 7th, 2018 at Cherrywood Advanced Living in Andover, MN. Bob was the son of Alvin and Dora (Peterson) Swanson. He grew up on the family farm in McKinney Township. He graduated from the Tolley High School and in fact met his future wife Carolyn Kalmbach at one of the school dances. On March 17, 1956 he married Carolyn at the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Kenmare. He must have been in a hurry to marry her because we discovered that he lied about his age on the marriage certificate. Their union was blessed with four children. Bob worked for over 30 years as a retail merchandiser for Montgomery Wards. He loved his job and was well-liked and respected by all his colleagues. Summer vacations were spent with his family, camping and exploring nature and the wide open spaces. When Bob retired, he and Carolyn sold their home in Minnesota and traveled around the United States pulling their home behind them. They made many long-lasting friends along their travels. They were avid square dancers. When they eventually felt the need to settle down in one place again, they returned to Tolley, when they had lots of family and friends and open spaces. Bob worked part-time for a few years at the Mouse River Park mowing the grass and helping with special projects. Carolyn passed away of health complications in January 2018. After 61 years of marriage, Bob missed her terribly. He was reunited with her in heaven on October 7th. Bob and Carolyn are survived by; daughter Katherine (Doug) Hanson, Elk River; MN; son Steven, Andover, MN; daughter Jennifer Smith, Andover, MN; Robert (Eliana) Swanson, Clearwater, FL; and seven grandchildren: Christopher, Katie, Kyle, Luke, Cody, Payton and Alyssa. It was Bob and Carolyn's wish that a funeral be held for both of them in their home town of Tolley where their hearts belong. Services will be held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tolley on October 27th at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon to follow at the Community Hall in Tolley. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to go to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tolley.
