Bob was born May 3, 1924, in Thornton, Iowa, and was raised at Clear Lake, Iowa. He joined the Army at age 18 and is a WW II veteran. He served in 354th Army Air Force for 3 years. Jean and Bob were married in Oakland, CA in 1949. He had been in retail management for 25 years, and lived the last 6 years in Santa Cruz County. Bob was a participant of the Cindy Celebration at The Mansion. Bob attended Armstrong Business College at Berkeley, CA where he received his Bachelor's degree. After college he worked for J.C. Penney's for 22 years then spent 12 years with his son in the trucking business until his retirement. Bob worshiped at Calvary Lutheran Church since 1984 until moving to Santa Cruz where he worshiped at Messiah Lutheran Church. His favorite pass time was helping people and traveling. The Duregger family gives thanks and praise to our wonderful savior Jesus for the gift of a loving, wonderful husband, father and grandfather. We are most thankful for the gift of faith and salvation granted to Bob. We look forward to the day when we will once again be joined together with Jesus as we behold Jesus face to face. Thanks be to God. Mr. Duregger is survived by sons, David J. Duregger of Knoxville, TN and Thomas A. Duregger of Garner, Iowa, and his daughter, Linda J. Corwin of Santa Cruz, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Edward in 1954. He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Bob also leaves his brothers, Fred Duregger of Newport News, CA, Edward Duregger Jr. of Garner, Iowa, Budd Duregger of Clear Lake, Iowa and Larry Borum of Florida, and his sisters, Gladys Henn of Clear Lake, Iowa, Helen Sorenson of Thornton, Iowa, Irene Sorenson of Castro Valley, CA. He was preceded in death by brothers Al Duregger, Jiggs Duregger and Robert Duregger and his sisters Mary Avery and Ida Mae Hill. Friends are invited to pay their respects January 20, from 3 till 7:00 p.m. at the Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz. Funeral service will be January 21st at 11:00 a.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church, 801 High St., Santa Cruz. Entombment will follow at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, at 3:00 p.m. Family requests remembrances be made to Parkinson's Foundation, American Heart Assn or Bipolar Mental Health Assn. Alameda Times-Star 1/20/06.
