Description	:	Robert Givan, 68, of Aberdeen, died Thursday, August 12, 1999, at ManorCare Health Services in Aberdeen. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 21, at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, Aberdeen. The Rev. Michael Gotcher will officiate. Burial will follow at Groton Union Cemetery at Groton under the direction of Miller-Huebl Funeral Home. There will be visitation at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Robert Lee Givan was born December 18, 1930 at Corning, Iowa, to Glenwood and Elsie May (Griffin) Givan. As a young child his home was at Corning, Iowa until the age of 10. In 1941 the family moved to South Dakota. They lived in and near Groton were his father worked at area farms. Robert helped his father care for the Groton Union Cemetery for a few years. He also tilled gardens, mowed yards and did snow removal. He attended and graduated from Groton High School. He attended business school in Rapid City and in Aberdeen. He worked for companies in New Jersey, Florida and Texas. He married Janice D. Hurlbert in October of 1979. They made their home in Aberdeen and he worked at the courthouse for several months. In 1980 he started working as a crossing guard at Henry Neil Elementary School. He also delivered the Aberdeen American News for several years until his health declined. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a Foster Grandparent at the Adjustment Training Center, a volunteer for the Senior Citizen Center and he participated in the Senior Olympics playing pool. He is survived by his wife, Janice, of Aberdeen. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Casket bearers will be Myles Ehresmann, Hank Bos, Mike Ehresmann, Wayland Lilly, Paul Darling and Sonny Laroque.
