Robert Leon Mangan was born May 21, 1929 at rural DeWitt, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Shean) Mangan. In high school he played on the basketball team and played trombone in the band. Mangan, 77, DeWitt, Iowa , died Friday evening June 2, 2006 at Westwing Place, DeWitt. Robert Leon Mangan was born May 21, 1929 at rural DeWitt, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Shean) Mangan. In high school he played on the basketball team and played trombone in the band. Bob married Marilyn Edgar September 22, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Bob farmed at rural Low Moor and DeWitt prior to moving to DeWitt in 2005. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt., and was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. Bob was also a member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling, in which he won many trophies, and also enjoyed golf. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and was a member of the I Club. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; a son, Rick, and his wife, Gaylene, DeWitt; two daughters, Sheri Nugent and her husband, Dale, Davenport, Iowa; Julie Lawrence and her husband, Tom, Rock Island, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Garrett Mangan, Brittany Mangan, Brett Mangan, Megan Nugent, Molly Nugent, Michael Lawrence, and Kelly Lawrence; a sister, Ellenor Kroymann, DeWitt; two sisters-in-law, Mary Mangan and MargEl Mangan, DeWitt. Preceding Bob in death were a son, Phillip, and two brothers, Thomas and Jerry. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4 until 7 p.m., Monday June 5, 2006. Vigil service 7 p.m. funeral Liturgy 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Brett Mangan, Garrett Mangan, Michael Lawrence, Roger Mangan, Steve Mangan, and Tom Mangan. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ed Keiner, David Stoecker, Rick Lohman, Tom Reed, Ronnie Kair, Dennis Carlsen and all nieces and nephews. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.
