Robert was born Aug. 5, 1924, in Bethel, Mo., the son of T.A. and Martha Ballinger Bower. He married Dorothy Boyles on Feb. 20, 1943, in Shelbyville. Bob was the owner/operator of Bob Bower Co., Rock Island, where he specialized as a Realtor, home builder and land developer, retiring in the late 1970s. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and was an avid Chicago sports fan. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Bower was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Mona Bower, Kansas City, Mo.; son, Robert K. Bower, Kenosha, Wis.; grandsons, Benjamin Bower, Yellow Stone, Wyo., 1st Lt. Andrew Bower and his wife, 1st Lt. Sara Bower, both serving in Iraq; stepgrandchildren, Heather Verbracken and her fiance, Ricardo Tapiador Jr., Zion, HI., Christopher Verbracken, Seattle, Wash., Zackary Verbracken, Kenosha; a stepgreat-grandson, Eric Grieshaber, Zion; sister, Genevieve Madden, Springfield, Mo.; brother-in-law, Al Boyles, Rock Island; sisters-in-law, Lois Maurer, Jefferson City, Mo., Tina Bower, Mission, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bower was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Paul Bower; daughter-in-law, Karen Bower; sister-in-law, Marilyn Boyles.
