Hansen, age 83, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Ava's House surrounded by his beloved family. Robert LeRoy Hansen was born on January 19, 1936 in Willow Lake, SD to parents, Hans and Mildred (Steele) Hansen. He was baptized at Naples Lutheran Church in Naples, South Dakota and was confirmed at the Vienna Lutheran Church. He graduated from Vienna High School in Vienna, South Dakota in 1954 and was one of only three in his graduating class. Robert married Karen Reoh on February 9, 1955 in Vienna, SD. The coupled moved to Sioux Falls and he worked at various automobile repair shops until he began his career with the South Dakota State Penitentiary in 1965, later retiring after 32 years. Robert lived in Asheville, North Carolina for the last fifteen years before moving back to Sioux Falls in 2014. He loved traveling throughout Europe, Germany, and throughout most of the United States. The family of Robert would like to extend a special Thank You to all of his caregivers at Ava's House for the exceptional care he received while he was there. Grateful for sharing his life are his children, Carrie (Harold) Hutton of Denver, CO, Danee (Sandy) Hansen of Sioux Falls, Ellen (Jack) Wiederholt of Lincoln, NE, Denise Krauth of Sioux Falls, Teresa (Patrick) East of Sioux Falls; sister, Gladys Jorgensen of Webster City, IA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and many other additional relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Spencer Hansen; brothers, Henry and Harold; sisters, Anna Gebhart, Inger Mussack, and Caroline Hansen; and special friend, Isolde Rohl. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
