He was born on June 16, 1941, the son of Beatrice (Haney) Hawkins. He lived his entire life in Ionia, graduated from Ionia High School, class of 1961. In early years, he was involved in farming. He was born on June 16, 1941, the son of Beatrice (Haney) Hawkins. He lived his entire life in Ionia, graduated from Ionia High School, class of 1961. In early years, he was involved in farming. Later he worked as a tool and die maker at Brown Corp. for 32 years where he took great pride in his work. During his lifetime he enjoyed deer hunting, trapping and fishing. Later he became an avid bird watcher, a fan of NASCAR, THE Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and doing crossword puzzles. Robert is survived by his daughters, Rhonda (Andrew) Girolami, Debra (Brian) Gagwer; three grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dianne (Joseph) Dinehart, Mary Lou (Danny) Hopkins; and brother, Jack (Irene) Hawkins; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dale; and an infant son. Robert loved the simple things in life, taking one day a time, and loved his family. The family would like to thank Great Lakes Hospices for all the their care and support, especially Christy Emelander. Per Robert's wishes, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place, and graveside services will be held later.
