Read More	In Memoriam Reynolds Harlan Tribune, Dec. 25, 1912 Robert Leroy Reynolds was born in Harlan, June 29th, 1883, died at Evanston, Illinois, December 18th, 1912, after an illness of nearly five months. At the time of his death, he was 29 years, 5 months and 19 days old. Everything was done for him that human skill and medical science could do. Physicians and surgeons, who rank very high in the profession, waited upon him during his sickness, and realizing that it was an unusual case, they gave him special and constant attention, but finally had to submit to the inevitable. During his sickness he suffered a great deal, but through it all he was so patient, kind and thoughtful. His splendid courage and beautiful spirit won for him the highest esteem and admiration of his nurses and doctors. Roy grew to manhood in Harlan, lived with his parents, attended school and was graduated from the Harlan High School in 1902. For a while he was assistant postmaster, under his brother Charles, performing his duties in that fine, congenial way which was so characteristic of his whole life and which won for him such a host of friends. It was Roy's ambition to equip himself for life's work in the best way possible. In 1905 he entered the Armour Institute of Technology [Illinois Institute of Technology] at Chicago, which he attended for two years, working his way during that time. Believing that his environment would be better at Evanston, he changed from Armour Institute to the great Methodist University [Northwestern] at that place where he remained two years. He then received employment with the Union Draft Gear Co., of Chicago, in whose employ he was at the time he was taken sick. Roy was received into full membership in the First Methodist Church of Harlan, July 14th, 1901. October 30th, 1905, his membership was transferred to St. James Methodist church, Chicago, of which Dr. Quayle, now Bishop Quayle, was pastor at that time. During his life in Harlan, he was an active worker in the church and Epworth league. At Evanston, he was teacher of a Sunday School class of older boys who showed their devotion and love by visiting him almost daily while in the hospital. It is a pleasure and a privilege to be ultimately acquainted with such a character as has just passed away. He was always so happy and joyful and full of cheerful greetings will long be remembered by his large circle of friends. Why such a life should be taken from our midst, in the very prime of manhood we do not understand, but we await the day when we shall know, and until that day, we put our trust and confidence in the Almighty for we know that he doeth all things well. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Edwin C. McDade, pastor. Interment was in the city cemetery.
