Maxey, 59, of Long Beach California, for 23 years, a resident of Villisca, died at 5 a.m. Thursday of last week from injuries he received at 4 p.m. the day before when he walked into the whirling propeller of a new Flying Fortress at the Douglas airplane plant in Long Beach. Robert L Maxey, who had been an employee of the plant about a year, was servicing a new Flying Fortress when the accident occurred. One of the four motors of the ship had been stated with Mr. Maxey started toward the tail of the plane to copy the serial number on a record sheet and inadvertently walked into the radius of the whirling propeller. The propeller blades hit him in the upper right part of the head, crushing his skull. He was given first aid treatment at the dispensary at the Douglas plant and was then removed to the Community Hospital where he remained conscious for several hours. Funeral Wednesday The body, accompanied by Mrs. Maxey and son Loy of Long Beach and her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dolsen of Denver, Colorado, arrived here Tuesday morning and was taken to the Sutphen Funeral Home where funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. F. W. Thompson of Villisca, assisted by Rev. Elmer Froyd, former Villisca who is pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Nebraska. The music was by Mrs. Herman Christie, Mrs. Elmer Froyd, Mrs. Fredrick Fisher, j. H. Todd, and H. H. Nordyke with Mrs. William Russell as accompanist. The pall bearers were George Davie, Albert F. Davie, Harry Tyler, Harry Lindell, C. G. English, and F. S. Pierson, and the flower bearers were Mrs. Mabel Brenton and Mrs. C. G. English. Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Robert Lincoln Maxey was born June 5, 1894 in Neosha Falls, Kansas, the son of the Rev. and Mrs. A. L. Maxey. During his boyhood the family moved to Grangeville, Idaho, where he attended school and following his graduation from High School he attended a business college in Portland, Oregon. He entered on a business career with a land and cattle firm in Grangeville, later becoming a member of the firm. He was married to Miss Nellie McMullen of Villisca on January 2, 1910 and they lived in Grangeville until 1913 when they came to Villisca to reside. Mr. Maxey was engaged in the coal and feed business here until two years ago. In the summer of 1941, he disposed of his business and he and Mrs. Maxey went to Long Beach where he took employment at the Douglas Air Plant. Beside his widow and son, Loy of Long Beach and his daughter, Mrs. Florence Dolsen of Denver, Mr. Maxey leaves also a grandson, David Dolsen of Denver, and two brothers, Will Maxey of Bend, Oregon and Charles Maxey of Whitelaw, Alberta, Canada. Mr. Maxey was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Villisca and was for several years a member of the board of trustees.
