Mr. Hardin was born October 23, 1922, in Natural Bridge, VA, a son of the late Robert Lewis Hardin and Retta Elizabeth Carter Hardin. Read More	Robert Loyd Hardin, 89, husband of Lillie Eugenia Smith Hardin, died Thursday, February 9, 2012, in Heritage Home in Florence, SC. Mr. Hardin was born October 23, 1922, in Natural Bridge, VA, a son of the late Robert Lewis Hardin and Retta Elizabeth Carter Hardin. He graduated from Plank Road School in Virginia and attended Erskine College in SC. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a former US Government employee, having retired from The State Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Hilah McCormick Hardin and 2 brothers, William and Reid Hardin. Mr. Hardin served Groveton Baptist Church, his church in Virginia, as a Deacon and a Pastor to the shut-ins and he was currently a member of Kingstree First Pentecostal Holiness Church. In recent years he enjoyed his grandchildren, pets, and helping others. Mr. Hardin helped to create a T.O.P.S. chapter in Kingstree, helped with Gospel singing several times a month, and was active in Bible Studies each week. Surviving Mr. Hardin, in addition to his wife Lillie Jean, are: 2 daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Tom) Castles, of Alexandria, VA and Becky Bender, of Florida; a step-son Dr. William McCown, of Louisiana; 2 grand daughters, Kelly Bender and Diana Bill, both of Florida; a grandson Dr. Ricky Castles, of North Carolina; 2 step grandsons, Gavin and Quinton McCown, of Louisiana; and 2 great grandsons, Jaxon and Tyler Bill, of Florida. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 11, 2012, in the chapel of Williamsburg Funeral Home, with burial in Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kingstree First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 37 McCall Road, Kingstree, SC 29556 or Smith Cemetery, c/o Mrs. W.L. Miles, 1629 N. Williamsburg County Hwy., Kingstree, SC 29556.
