Description	:	Robert Lynn "Bob" Goddard II, age 62, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011, at his residence in Hernando. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Lynn Goddard, who died May 11, 2000. He was a retired school teacher and coach at Citrus County High School. He was a lifelong Methodist. Read More	Robert Lynn "Bob" Goddard II, age 62, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011, at his residence in Hernando. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Lynn Goddard, who died May 11, 2000. He was a retired school teacher and coach at Citrus County High School. He was a lifelong Methodist. Mr. Goddard was a graduate of EHS Class of 1967, where he played tennis, basketball and baseball, and was selected for Boys' State. He received a scholarship for tennis and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His successful, rewarding career as a teacher/coach has profoundly changed lives of many thousands of young people for over 35 years. This success has been noted with many accolades, including induction in two halls of fame; multiple inclusions in Who's Who Among American Teachers; countless Coach of the Year awards - including being named as one of the top 10 cross-country coaches in the state of Florida in 1993. He was honored with the Golden Conch Award in 1998, the only year that state coaching award was ever presented. He was very active, with hobbies including fitness, camping - a favorite spot was the Canadian Rockies - traveling, hunting, fishing and sailing the gulf and Caribbean. He was an avid reader, philosopher and accomplished guitarist. Bob loved art, the arts, music, was a musicologist and historian. Above all the tributes, awards and recognition, none could be more deserving than the love and devotion of his family. He was to us the son, brother, uncle and cousin that we adore, and that cannot be understated. Survivors include his mother, Patsy Taylor Goddard Longmire and his stepfather, William "Bill" Longmire Jr., of Johnson City, TN; sister Terri Parker and her husband, Richard, of Atlanta, GA; sister Jennifer Birchfield and her husband, Randall, of Elizabethton; brother Charles F. Goddard and his wife, Jan, of Tallassee, FL; brother Pat Goddard and his wife, Kathy, of Erwin, TN; three aunts, Virginia Laws and Madelyn Rasar, both of Elizabethton, and Mary Etta Camm, Brentwood, TN; several nieces and nephews and cousins and special friends too numerous to name also survive. "A Celebration of Life" service will be held at the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Inurnment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, TN, on Friday, December 16, 2011. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Nelson, Hugh Adkins, Tom Darby, Dr. John Crockett, Bill Stanton, John Stanton, Jerry Jamison, Sam LaPorte, John Mills, Crawford Alexander, David Bush and David McKinney. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, 325 East E. St., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
