A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Stanwood Cemetery, Stanwood, Iowa, with full military rites. Robert Maxwell Coppess Jr., was born April 4, 1927, in Stanwood, the son of Robert and Mary (Simmons) Coppess Sr. He attended school at Stanwood. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Patricia Jean Crock on August 20, 1950, at Stanwood Methodist Church in Stanwood. Together they farmed and raised both crops and livestock. He also sold Moorman’s Feed for several years. Patricia preceded him in death on January 16, 2015. He was a lifelong member of the Stanwood Union Church. He was a past commander of the Hegarty-Busching Legion Post 348 in Stanwood. He was an avid aviator and was a private pilot for over 55 years. He enjoyed traveling, attending his children’s activities and was a Cyclone, Cubs and race car fan. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family. Surviving are one daughter, M. Dawn (Thomas) Weiland of Stanwood; six sons, Robert (Grace) Coppess III of Stanwood, Michael (Susan) Coppess of Indianola, David (Deana) Coppess of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, W. Brent (Debbie) Coppess of Buffalo Grove, IL, Brian (Patricia) Coppess of Gunnison, CO, and Cameron (Becky) Coppess of West Des Moines; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one grandson, Quentin Coppess. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff and administrators of Cedar Manor Care Facility, Tipton, for the loving care and support given to Robert.
