He grew there into young manhood at which time he moved to Illinois. Here he settled on a farm in McDonald county and lived in the same county until 1875 when he and his family moved to Carrol County, Mo. He was married to Margout Keesecker, April 5, 1849 with whom he lived happily until time of her death, April 6, 1904. He and his wife lived in Carrol County until fall of 1883 when he and two youngest sons moved to Cherokee, Kans., and settled on a farm just west of town. Here they were joined by several more of the children and their families in later years. About twelve years ago he and wife retired from active life owing to her being injured in a runaway and becoming a nervous wreck. It was while living here in town that the great sorrow of their lives occurred, the death of the only unmarried son, Frank McClure, who was fatally injured by a Memphis switch engine while performing his work as switchman. Grandma never fully rallied from the shock of this blow and was a constant care upon Grandpa. he was never known to shirk or be negligent in his care of her during a period of over seven years sickness. Upon her death Grandpa made his home with his remaining sons and daughters of whom there are four sons living and three daughters. He has spent the later part of the time with his daughter, Mrs. A.A. Clugston, at whose home he passed away on Dec. 27, 1906. Robert McClure was converted in the fall of 1876 and joined the Methodist church and has always retained his membership with that church. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Jno. Neal, of Tina, Mo., Mrs. W.J. Vernard, of Cherokee, and Mrs. A.A. Clugston, of Cherokee, and four sons, Wm. McClure, Chas. McClure and Robert McClure, all of Cherokee and Jas. McClure of Tina, Mo. Grandpa has been an old and familiar citizen for years, always cheerful, always ready for a chat, and he will be missed by a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church, by Rev. Freeland, at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 1906.
