Description	:	FAIRFIELD -- Robert M. Moroney, 88, of Fairfield, passed away quietly at his home Monday morning, April 23, 2007. Bob was born in Chicago on Feb. 20, 1919, the youngest child of Edward and Margaret (Boyle) Moroney. He spent his early years and attended schools in Chicago, graduating from St. Mel's High School in 1938. Bob proudly served in the Navy from 1939 until 1959, as a medic and attained the rank of warrant officer. He was also a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Moroney, 88, of Fairfield, passed away quietly at his home Monday morning, April 23, 2007. Bob was born in Chicago on Feb. 20, 1919, the youngest child of Edward and Margaret (Boyle) Moroney. He spent his early years and attended schools in Chicago, graduating from St. Mel's High School in 1938. Bob proudly served in the Navy from 1939 until 1959, as a medic and attained the rank of warrant officer. He was also a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor. While stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, Calif., Bob met a Navy nurse, Eileen Donahue, of Fairfield. Bob and Eileen married there on Feb. 23, 1946, in full dress Naval uniforms and went on to enjoy 61 years of marriage. After retiring from the Navy, Bob moved his family back to Maine where he graduated from Thomas College in 1962 and the University of Maine in 1963. He then went on to work in a supervisory position for the Defense Contract Administration Service in Hartford, Conn. It was there that Bob completed a total of 39 years of service for the federal government. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Ruth (Moroney) McMachon; and brothers Edward, John, and James "Spud" Moroney. Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen; his son, Robert J. Moroney and wife Mary Lou, of Fairfield; daughter, Melanie Moroney and husband Fred Schmook, of Pray, Mont.; son, Richard Moroney of Bozeman, Mont.; grandchildren, Bridget (Moroney) and husband Jeff West, of Winslow, Susan (Moroney) and husband Wayne Nadeau, of Fairfield, Jane Moroney and partner Brad Bellows, of China, and Kara, Owen, and Nell Moroney, all of Bozeman; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily West and Anna and Allie Nadeau; many nieces and nephews in Illinois; and his wonderful extended family, the Joseph and Blanche (Thibodeau) Donahue family.
