Elvin at a sanitarium in Independence, Mo., where he had been for some time. He had been a sufferer from kidney trouble, and it has long been known that he could not recover. Read More	1.) ELDER ROBERT ELVIN DEAD Was One of the Early Settlers Leading Member in [R.]L.D.S. Church Telegram received here today conveyed the sad news of the death of Robert M. Elvin at a sanitarium in Independence, Mo., where he had been for some time. He had been a sufferer from kidney trouble, and it has long been known that he could not recover. Mr. Elvin was particularly well known to all the pioneers of this city, as his parents were among the first to come to Nebraska. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, January 16, 1846, and when but a child came to this country with his parents, they locating near what is now Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1851. When Nebraska was opened to settlement, his father secured land in Douglas county, but in 1858 moved to this city, where they lived until their death. His father, R. M. Elvin, was one of the leading merchants of the city for years and was closely identified with the Latter Day Saints church, being one of the elders. His son, Robert, was baptized in the church in April 1866, and later joined the priesthood, and as he was a man of rare talents and ability, he was advanced in the church until at the time of his death he was a high priest. He left here in the early 80's and moved to Lamoni, Iowa, having charge of the books of the church, and has made his home there since. While in this city, he was quite prominent in politics, being for some time connected with the internal revenue office as a deputy. He is survived by his wife and three children, two daughters and one son. The remains will be taken to Lamoni, Iowa, for interment. "Bob," as he was always called by those who knew him best, was a genial, whole-souled man, and had a large number of friends. His death will be deplored by all who knew him. Elvin, 71 years old of Lamoni, Ia., died yesterday at the Independence Sanitarium where he was taken six weeks ago following a stroke of paralysis. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, January 6, 1846, and when 3 years old came to St. Louis. Fifty-one years ago last Sunday he was ordained to the ministry of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church which at that time was new and from that time until his last illness he was active in missionary work in the United States. His wife died nineteen years ago. He was the father of Mrs. J. W. Luff 1503 West Short Street, Independence, and of Mrs. Vida Morgan and Elder R.C. Elvin both of Lamoni, Ia. The body will be taken this morning to Lamoni for the funeral and burial.
